MUSSENDEN TEMPLE

In 1785 Frederick Augustus Hervey, Bishop of Londonderry, built Mussenden Temple sitting on the cliff top at the end of Portstewart Strand as a memorial to his cousin Mrs Frideswide Mussenden, The temple, originally designed as a library was modelled on the Temple of Vesta at Tivoli outside Rome.
