GIANT'S CAUSEWAY
PreviousNext
As one of the natural wonders of the world. The Giant's Causeway has an estimated 37,000 basalt columns extending from the cliffs down to the sea. Most of the columns are hexagonal in shape, formed by volcanic eruptions 60 million years ago. But legend tells of how the giant Finn MacCool laid the causeway as a path across the sea to his lady love, who lived on Staffa Island in Scotland where similar columns are found.
